Update (30/1/14): It starts now! http://challonge.com/rvmcny

Hear ye, hear ye. Let’s celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year festivities with an official tournament! As per these unique fights, we’ll be putting in a special stipulation or two to keep in theme with the upcoming Year of the Horse.

Here are the rules to spice things up:

- Players are only allowed to use the following Brigades: Te Tero, Mizraki’s Sandhounds, Les Grognard, Mallico’s Madmen, Her Devoted, Dies Irae.

-There will be eight slots available for this tourney. If there’s a huge demand in the next few weeks, we’ll extend it to 16 slots.

-For each bracket, contesting players have up to three days to finish their matches. The player who sends the invite and does not get a response from his/her opponent within three days will advance by default.

-The actual tournament will start on January 30. The tourney will go on until a winner is declared. As usual, just declare the match outcome here or PM me so that I can update the Challonge board.

-The top three players will get 50, 25 and 15 lodestones respectively. (Winner gets 50, third place gets 15).

Application for this awesome tournament begins now! Just send over your gamertag/username via PM and I’ll add you in the oncoming Challonge bracket chart. We’ll put updates on this also on Twitter(https://twitter.com/RavenmarkSaga) and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/RavenmarkSaga).

Good luck!

Oh, of course. At first glance I just thought it was any Cavalry or Light Cavalry heavy brigades. Apparently only brigades with three horse-based units, then. My bad.

Here's the updated 16-player list:
Madliver
Feyd
SoonerJBD
Aria
edenchen
Aetherion
Julio
Grozny
Rhosa
TheOneCrydd
Maxine
Suetonius
Dubber
Isaac
Feurio
shinimai

The big question is: should we expand? After much discussion with the team, we've figured out a few ways around this:
a) Get up to 32 players. So if you can spread the word and get 16 more in the fray, we can start on the intended date (Jan. 27)
b) If we can't get up to 32 and we get a nice round number, we'll do a group stage tournament instead of a double elimination tourney.

We'd love to hear your insights & suggestions. Let's catch 'em all, guys & gals!

Like I said, since I almost never use the allowed brigades I just feel like I don't have any chance in this. Plus I'm not looking forward to seeing her devoted fielded every game.
That said, if you're hurting for players I will happily join and serve as fodder :)

Apart from group stage format, our team suggested another type: Swiss-System.

Seems too complicated to me. I understand a group stage tournament much better, but I'm a soccer fan. Not sure if non-footie fans are familiar with that format either.

Admin will pick those for you.

You just play.

Swiss is basicly winner vs winner and looser vs looser. All the way.

Yea, Swiss is good if it's based on a point system. 3 points for a win? 0 for a loss? Play until there is no longer a undefeated player? But usually you cut to the top 4 if it's 16 or less, or top 8 if it's 16 or more, then play another set of matches. If you don't do it that way, you might as well call it single elim, because the only people who will place is the winners, might as well drop after 1st loss. Plus running it as Swiss you don't have to have a even amount of players, one player will get a first round bye.

Not sure what's is actually called, but in soccer they do use a variation of Swiss tournament, point system is really all it is. I think in soccer it's max 10pts
1pt for each goal up to 3
5pt for a win
2pt for a shutout =10pt

I would love to play, but I'm fairly busy in the real world right now, so I'm not sure I can guarantee finishing matches on time. I'm ok taking the losses, but I don't know if that would make other people unhappy. If you're doing 16, ignore me, if you're doing more and nobody has reservations about some players getting the occasional unintentional bye, sign me up!

Alright, so we've got our sixteen confirmed players.

Here's the rest so far; hopefully we can get to 32 or at least a round number:
Warbaby
Rooster6133
Nicko
Ringel
Wolfish

Do spread the word about the tourney if you can.

Just run it as Swiss format, doesn't need to be even, and you can have any number of players.

The problem with Swiss is that you need a playoff for the top players, with no good way to decide tie-breakers. It gets a bit easier with an even number of players, and better still with multiples of 8. But then there is no reason not to run it as a normal elimination tournament.

Right now, we're sticking to the restricted brigades. Unless the rest of the tourney players want it? Lemme know as soon as you can before the 30th.

It seems that The Screaming Nightingales are cavalry-heavy from initial looks.

I'd really like it if they weren't included. There's not a single pole arm in any of the other brigades that are allowed in the tournament.

In my opinion, with all the cavalry, the Nightingales will be a necessity which will severly limit the diversity of brigades we'll see in the tournament.

Also I'll have to level them and I don't think my brain will be able to take playing the same brigade 34 times in one day!
